‘It’s hard to remember something that would be so worrisome that you would need sleepless nights. You know, I cannot remember such special difficulties,’ said President Ilham Aliyev in an interview with TASS, responding to a question about difficulties over the past five years.

‘There are, of course, working moments, moments when a certain disappointment happens, because instructions and assignments are not properly implemented. But in general, over the years, everything went according to plan. Because initially I proceeded from the fact that sustainable development of the state was possible only if to plan the steps correctly, their sequence, priorities; and they should be aimed at the result.

We have always been far from populism, from populist rhetoric. Sometimes we even tried, as it were, not to show ourselves very much, just do what is necessary for the country to develop successfully. Again, I must say that there were no difficulties with questions related to our internal development and, I think, will not be.

The only concern was periodically raised by questions related to the regional situation: how the aggravation of the regional situation can adversely affect our citizens, our country, and what needs to be done to protect our citizens and the country from risks? So, I think, if we talk about some difficulties, I could give this example, and then only in the sense that these factors do not depend on us. Everything related to issues that depend on our decisions and actions, here I cannot recall any difficult moments,’ end of quote.
